The inaugural ‘Stuart Alexander and AXA Art Award’ was won by painting student Alastair Moody.
Frances Fogel, one of AXA Art’s in-house Art Historians, and a judge on the panel, said of the winner “Alastair’s striking paintings had an instantly positive impact on all four judges. With their cubist influence and industrial feel, Moody’s paintings conveyed a deep appreciation of structure and architectural influence whilst at the same time being theatrical and even humorous. This complexity reflected Alastair’s competence and secured him the award”.
A second award is given by the organisers of the 20/21 British Art Fair to a student from the Print Making Department. This year’s winner was Clare Maunsell who says this:
‘Rarely does anything extraordinary happen in our day-to-day lives, yet to me some of the most banal situations can be the most exceptional. To relieve the monotony of a boring job or a menial task, and to preserve one’s sanity, it is sometimes necessary to find other things to occupy one’s mind. It is in these moments that the most ridiculous, hilarious and moving conversations and events occur. People and their little idiosyncrasies and eccentricities fascinate me. Through my work I am trying to convey the enthusiasm I have for this tragic comedy of everyday life.’
Work by both these talented artists will be on view at this year’s fair. |
