WATERAID CHARITY AUCTION

Established artists, emerging artists and celebrities who are not generally considered as artists have been asked to produce work to go ‘under the hammer’ at a charity auction from Thursday 29 for the duration of the Fair. Between 50 and 100% of the sale will be donated by the artists to WaterAid, the charity which provides water and sanitation to communities suffering from drought caused by climate change.

But there’s a twist. The identity of the participating artists will not be revealed until after the bidding. And so, bidders must follow hunches (or go for pieces they like, regardless of who they think created it). By the end of the day, some punters will have come away with a real bargain.

It’s all in a great cause, of course. The paintings will be on display at Benugo (the Saatchi café) on the second floor; blind bidding takes place at the Fair and online.

Artists include Ben Okri, Rosemary Clunie, Boy George, Carolyn Trant, Carrie Reichardt, Damien Hirst, David Hockney, Giles Deacon, Haseebah Ali, Henry Ward, Heywood & Condie, Jessica Albarn, Jonathan Barnes, Julian Wild, Nettie Wakefield, Pure Evil, Rankin, Rowena Easton, Sir Peter Blake and The Connor Brothers.
